Description The two videos were used in ESOL 1 class. The first video was a lesson on Cause-and-Effect.The pictures used depicted common scenarios that happen in a school environment.Students were instructed to determine the situations presented in the pictures, and then were told to name the possible causes and effects. The second video was done by ESOL students.Pictures of road or street signs were taken, and a story was constructed showing how they understood the signs used.
Reflection At first, I was hesitant because I knew that this project would entail longer preparation since I needed to take pictures to complete it. I thought it was easier to download pictures from the Internet and use them in class.Doing so would not really consume so much time since there are tons of pictures and ready-made presentations available online.I felt I was pressed for time when working on the videos.Originally, the idea of using it in class was never part of the plans I made at the start of the year.Incorporating its use was not easy. And so I finally tried using pictures of students presenting common scenarios they see in school.I thought making use of real life situations would help them relate to the lesson more.True enough, I consider my lesson on Cause-and-Effect one of the best lessons I have had this year. They were not only able to relate to it, but they also enjoyed seeing the people they were familiar with on the video.Furthermore, they also enjoyed creating the video of their own story.I wish my class and I had more time to do this.I wish I had plan better using this technology in class. The digital camera and the Photo Story Program are good devices to make lessons exciting and interactive.Lessons become more relevant to students when we allow them to take part in the preparation.
